Search engine optimisation is the process which allows users to find websites that offer the products or services they are seeking via the search engines.
So how do you optimise a website and where do your start?
I think this is probably one of the most confusing issues when it comes to website optimisation

The problem is the same today as it has been for the past 10 years – people don’t understand that there is a basic foundation when it comes to search engine optimisation and unless you apply this when creating your website your never going to get the traffic you expect.
I’m sure you’ve heard the catch cry “Build it and they will come” – well trust me they won’t – This rule does not apply to websites!!!
Unless you first lay the basic foundation you have little if any chance of bringing visitors to your website – yeah sure people will find you (eventually) but your not going to get on the first couple of pages of google.
Okay so you will rank for your domain name – but that happens for every website.
But what about the products or services your selling – this is what you want to rank for – Potential customer won’t find you unless you optimise for them.
If your still not sure what I mean then try this – go to google or yahoo – type in your best selling product or service – hit enter.
Now take a look and see if you can find your website on the first 2 pages? – Now keep going and see exactly which page your are on……….
Okay so thats why it is so important to optimise your website – you want to get on the first couple of pages – thats where the traffic is and thats where you potential customers are.
I dont know about you but I hardly ever go past the first couple of pages when searching for stuff.
